Isabel Love in Atlanta:
Boudoir, Movement and Fine Art
I’ve photographed a lot of different styles over the years, but I always like a shoot that gives us the opportunity to move between different ideas easily without having to force anything.
My shoot with Isabel Love had that type of flow to it. We shot in my midtown Atlanta studio and originally planned a boudoir and lingerie set, but the shoot ended up going quite a bit further than that.
We photographed the lingerie set, shot behind the scenes video, created a nude yoga film, and also produced an erotic art film that takes a much more intense, intimate approach.
Isabel was a natural fit for this kind of session. She’s an international traveling model with experience in fine art, nude photography, boudoir, fashion, glamour, yoga, movement and video. She also has a background in athletics and yoga, which becomes pretty obvious once the camera is on her.
That range gave us a lot to work with.
The Isabel Love boudoir session
We started with lingerie.
My studio had some really nice natural light coming through the windows that day, and I liked the way it worked with the darker curtains and the warmer tones in the room. It gave the set a softer look without having to do much to it.
Isabel’s posing also worked really well with the space. She’s comfortable in front of the camera, and there’s a big difference between working with someone who knows how to pose and someone who is trying to figure out what to do next.
That allowed me to spend more time paying attention to the light, composition and small changes in the pose instead of constantly directing every movement.
Some of my favorite images from the session came from those moments where we weren’t really doing too much.
We also filmed throughout the shoot, so there will be quite a bit more than just the finished photographs.

Isabel's connection to yoga and movement
The yoga portion of the shoot came from something that’s already a big part of Isabel’s work.
She has worked as a traveling model for years and has experience with yoga, movement and athletic posing. She’s also appeared in True Naked Yoga, so creating a nude yoga piece with her made sense for this shoot.
What I like about photographing yoga is that it changes the way the body is photographed.
A traditional portrait might hold a pose for a few seconds. With yoga, everything is constantly changing. The lines of the body change, the balance changes, and the composition can completely change between two frames.
That makes it interesting from a photography standpoint.
For this project, we decided to take that idea into video and create a nude yoga film rather than simply make a collection of still photographs.
Isabel Love's Erotic Art Film
We also created something that was quite a bit more intimate.
The erotic art film was designed as a separate piece from the boudoir session. Rather than simply documenting a model posing for the camera, Isabel was given space to create a much more personal performance.
The result is probably one of the more intimate pieces we’ve created for Room Noir.
I’m not going to pretend it’s the same thing as a traditional boudoir video. It isn’t. It’s much more explicit and much more focused on eroticism and self expression.
The film isn’t published yet, but it’ll be added to Room Noir when it’s ready.
More Isabel Love from Room Noir
One of the things I enjoyed about working with Isabel was being able to approach the shoot from several different directions.
The lingerie photographs have one feeling.
The yoga footage has another.
The erotic art film goes somewhere else entirely.
They’re all part of the same session, but they don’t need to look or feel the same.
That’s something I’m interested in with Room Noir in general. I don’t want every shoot to fit into the same visual formula. Sometimes the work is about the photograph. Sometimes it’s about movement or the person we’re photographing. Sometimes the subject matter calls for something much more intimate.
With Isabel, we had the opportunity to explore all of that in one session.
There’s still more of the shoot to come, so this page will be updated as the yoga film and erotic art film are released.
